The painterly decision thus remains intentionally framed, yet at the same time eludes a fully controllable system. It is precisely in the openness of the colour process that a tension arises between conscious placement and the image’s self-generating development.

The visual dimension constitutes an independent dimension of cognition. My paintings are revealed not primarily through historical, literary, or representational prior knowledge, but through the act of seeing itself.
